Chapter Six
We found a cheap motel on the outskirts of the city and watched the news to see if they had reported anything about us escaping the hospital. There was nothing, which was surprising. When anything went on in the city like a break out, it was normally all over the news.
I decided to go and get us some take out. I pulled on the baseball cap I had taken from Georgia’s father so I wouldn’t draw any attention to myself. I put the gun down in the small of my back and let Georgia know I would be back after I got the food.
I headed out on foot. We had ditched the van because we couldn’t afford to get caught up because we were still riding around the city in it. I know the old man had to have reported the jacking by now.
I made my way to one of the carryouts and ordered the food. I spotted a payphone and fished out the paper with Reese’s number and address that Cornell had given me on it.
I called her, hoping she was in. Unfortunately, there was no answer and I didn’t want to leave a message. I hung up the phone feeling defeated. I would just have to try her again later. I needed to find out what happened to my brother and Reese was the only person who seemed to know anything.
I paid for our food and headed back to the room. I don’t know why I had doubts about Georgia. She had proved to be as loyal as they come. My paranoia was kicking into overdrive. I don’t know why I expected her to be gone when I got back to the room.
I slid the key into the lock and she was laid across the bed. I could barely see anything because the television was off and the curtains were closed, but I could clearly see she was naked and wet from the bath she had taken.
“I didn’t know what you wanted, so I got you a few choices,” I said to her.
She got off the bed and walked over to me. She was beautiful. Georgia was everything I wasn’t and it fascinated me, from her naturally long, black hair to her small frame. Her skin was the color of caramel and blemish free. She was beautiful.
She took the food from me and placed it on the worn table that doubled as the TV stand.
“Go get cleaned up and I will make your plate,” Georgia said.
I did as she instructed and stripped out of my clothes. I showered and put on a pair of boxers and t-shirt I had taken from Georgia’s father’s drawers. I re- joined Georgia, who was still naked, on the bed. The food sat on the table untouched.
“You aren’t going to eat? I can get you something else if you want,” I offered Georgia.
“Not yet. I got something else in mind,” she said, sitting up in the bed.
She motioned for me to join her and I slid under the covers.
